Chapter Awards

The 2022-2023 awards cycle has been closed.

Applications must have been submitted by Wednesday, April 5th, 2023 at 11:59pm.

 

All application materials are to be submitted over email to the Co-Presidents at psichi@psych.ubc.ca by 11:59pm on March 29th. Reference letters, if required, can be attached to these application materials, or emailed directly from referees. Please include “[Award Title] Award Application: [Your Name]” in your email title.

Award recipients will be notified prior to our award ceremony in May.

Please note you must be a current Psi Chi member and undergraduate enrolled at UBC to be eligible for the following awards.

Suedfeld Research Award (SRA)

Description: An award designed to recognize and honor a maximum of 10 Psi Chi members who have showcased outstanding commitment to research through their participation in the UBC Psychology Undergraduate Research Conference (PURC). This award offers a cash prize of at least $50 (and up to $100) for members to put towards the funding of their participation in PURC. The amount of each SRA and the total number awarded will vary based on current funding levels and the number of successful applicants.

Goldsmith-Whillans Award for Outstanding Student Leadership

Description: A competitive undergraduate award given by our chapter of Psi Chi. It is designed to honour one Psi Chi member per year with the most impressive evidence of leadership on the UBC campus or in the community. This prestigious designation offers a cash prize of $250.

Distinguished Undergraduate Research Award (DURA)

Description: A competitive undergraduate award given by our chapter of Psi Chi. It is designed to honour one Psi Chi member per year who has the most impressive evidence of outstanding research on the UBC campus or in a UBC-related facility/program. This prestigious designation offers a cash prize of $250.

Arguelles-So Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Award

Description: An award designed to honour one Psi Chi member per year who has made significant contributions to learning, research, or service efforts that seek to further equity, diversity, and inclusion in the UBC Psychology community. This includes meaningful and explicit efforts directed towards investing in IBPOC, LGBTQ2S+, disabled, and other historically marginalized and underserved communities in the field of psychology. This designation offers a cash prize of $400.

Eich Undergraduate Travel Award (EUTA)

Description: A research-based award designed to financially support current undergraduate members of Psi Chi (UBC Chapter) who are working (or have worked) in a research lab at or associated with UBC. The research need not be conducted in the Psychology Department but the work must be presented at a psychology-related conference. This award provides $200-$400 to defray the costs associated with presenting research at a conference; the amount of each EUTA and the total number awarded annually will vary based on current funding levels.
